Facing up to the Moslem Problem
In the wake of the arrest of the Toronto Seventeen many thoughtful Canadians, who had lately thought themselves immune to the dangers faced by our civilization, are reassessing their position. Of course, one of the problems in figuring out how to respond to the T-17 is that, unlike the 9-11 hijackers, they are from here with many of them seemingly Canadian born and raised. We can’t go over there to fight them before they come here because they are already here and, in a legal sense, they have as much of a right to be here as any other citizen. For the moment, the biggest problem in dealing with and talking about the T-17 is the seeming unwillingness of the Canadian media – and large portions of the political – establishment to face up to the reality of what the existence of this terrorist cell means. Ordinary middle-class Moslem youth – of whom there are tens and perhaps hundreds of thousands in this country – are being radicalized and turned into terrorists right here. On our streets. In Well, perhaps I am making up the last part – the “radicalized” part. Perhaps they were already radical to begin with. Perhaps, as part of their existence as Moslems, they are by definition radical. Where, in the past, they kept to themselves, now the present state of the world encourages them to strike. Look around the world for a moment. In India-Pakistan you’ve got Moslems versus Hindus. In It is certainly not politically correct to say it – but it is perhaps necessary all the same: the world has an Moslem problem. When, more than a decade ago, Samuel Huntington wrote about “Islam’s bloody borders” it was a largely theoretical concern for the majority. Now, increasingly, it is an obsession. With each passing day, across the whole of the Globe, Islam grows stronger and its opponents grow weaker. With each new atrocity Islam’s ardour increases and our resolve fades. I am reminded of WB Yeats’ The Second Coming, “the best lack all conviction, while the worst are filled with passionate intensity.” As the Grandson of Japanese internees, I am quite conscious of the problems associated with deeming one group of people a threat and considering measures against them. But, as well, I am aware of the differences between that situation and the one which we now face. No Japanese had been convicted – or even reliably accused – of any crime. All Japanese, regardless of their status (meaning including women and children) were interned without any consideration of individual cases. Moreover, they were interned indefinitely without charge or cause – and they had their property stripped from them. That was wrong. But the fact that actions taken in that situation were wrong does not automatically mean that any action which considers an individual’s connection to our enemies to be a cause for suspicion is wrong. We have a real problem here – it cries out for strong leadership to respond to it. To begin with, we’ve got to deal with the T-17 themselves. This is extremely problematic in view of the fact that they appear to be largely citizens and that many of them are young offenders.
There are some sensible steps that we can take.
Second, we need to consider some kind of new law which will consider the true realities of this war. These people we’ve arrested are essentially soldiers in the Moslem army. To release them while the war is ongoing would be insanity – let alone to release some of them according to the terms of the Youth Criminal Justice Act. What we need is a law which will provide for indefinite detentions of those people – not in prison, but in a specialized prison camp, like I’m serious. Think about it. We can’t possibly let these people out while the war’s still one without trailing them twenty-four hours a day – something which would unacceptably strain our resources. We need to lock them up and keep them locked up. Such an act might be ruled unconstitutional but, unlike the Now is the time to face reality. Islam isn’t a “religion of peace.” It’s a threat to all of our lives. Those bombs could just as easily have been planned for * Meaning a human-sized Microwave.

"* Meaning a human-sized Microwave."
Yeah, there was another group of foam at the mouth types that were for shoving people into ovens. It was their Final Solution to their "Problem" as well. You are sick, sick, Nazi fuck. Look, we have no idea what these people were up to, we don't know of the evidence against them, and we don't even know why there were doing what they were doing. Everyone is in the dark, including you. Summarily executing them, interning people who look like them, or people who are from the same place as them is pointless, counter-productive and ultimately dangerous. If they were planning something awful, and there is evidence sufficient enough to convict them on some reasonable crime, then they should rot in jail. By the way, you annoying idiot, how do you define a "Muslim" country? India has the second most Muslims of any country in the world, despite morons like Huntington simplifying it away as a "Hindu country." Are we going to cut off immigration from India, which provides Canada with much of its productive immigrants, and has done so for the last century and a half? See, the world is not black and white. If you would get your fat ass up, and out of your basement, and out into the world, you would see that labelling people in one gesture is pointless and incorrect. But you won't, will you? It will take you away from your stash of pornography, your Risk board, your semen-stained Ann Coulter books, your comic books, and your extensive DVD collection of various Star Trek incarnations. Pity, that.
equin said "Everyone is in the dark, including you"
Unfortunately, equin, facts dictate otherwise. The law enforcement organizations are fully aware of what they were planning on doing and that is why they tailed them for over a year and arrested them last week. Unless you are ready to say that they did this for other reasons than their job requires (which perhaps you are - and then it is you who is to provide facts backing up your argument). Why don't you argue based on facts rather than ad hominem attacks. "Look, we have no idea what these people were up to" Did you not listen/watch any of the press conferences, read the papers? Your stance can only be construed as willful ignorance.
Gee, look who’s suddenly a Canadian again. I like how the opportunity to slander Muslims or gays is the only thing that brings your persona back north of the border.
Look around the world? In Ireland it is Catholics vs. Protestants. In Sri Lanka it is Tamils vs. Buddhists. In Kansas it is fundamentalist Christians vs. evolutionists. The only common factor I see is that you’re fucking obsessed with Muslims. I must admit though, I am thrilled to see our police agencies didn't fuck this situation up American style. If Canada had the Repubs at the helm, we'd be plucking charred corpses out from smoldering piles of rubble and IDing them by their molars in a few months. When are you going to run for elected office again, Adam? I want to watch you squirm at the podium while your detractors recite your Naziesque comments back to you verbatim.
I’m serious.
... * Meaning a human-sized Microwave. Bwahahahahaha! Oh Adam you're seriously deranged, seriously retarded, seriously sad but just serious? No, sorry Chuckles, you are anything but. Adam they will be tried according to the law, end of story. There will be not GitmoNorth, there will be no executions and immigration will continue as it always had. You are part of a bat shit crazy minority that exists as a cautionary tale for the rest of us. I too can't help but notice Adam returning to Canada, guess he has to go where the fear and hate is. I bet Adam got all excited when the news broke, I bet he was jumping up and down screaming “See?!?! Seee??!” and then he ran out into the street with his torch and pitchfork all ready to go but was disappointed to see that there wasn’t any mobs getting ready to march on the nearest Mosque. Sadly he went back to his parent’s basement to suck back another box of Jos Louis.
In Britain, on the same day that the Toronto Seventeen's alleged activities were being revealed to the world, about 250 police officers descended on a house in East London. Two men were arrested, one of whom was shot in murky circumstances (his housemate and the police are blaming each other).
They have now spent five days searching the house from top to bottom after assuring the media that it was being used to store chemical weapons (the headlines last Friday and Saturday were hysterical in every sense)... ...and have failed to turn up even the remotest shred of evidence. And believe me, they've had forensic teams turning over every molecule of that building – so even if chemicals had been stored there in the past, they should have turned something up by now. Now maybe these men are as guilty as hell of whatever it is they've been charged of – but they could equally be totally innocent, and this 'intelligence' that led the police to their house could be a monumental fit-up by an enemy bearing a grudge. Either way, the only way to resolve this is to come up with evidence, formally charge them with a crime and subject them to the usual judicial process – and if they're guilty, I'm all for locking them up and throwing away the key. But the absence of any evidence so far, quite apart from the disputed circumstances of the shooting, suggests that it's not exactly an open-and-shut case – making the need for a full and open court hearing all the more urgent. After all, that's what separates 'civilised' nations from 'uncivilised' ones – and remind me exactly what we're fighting to defend? (Still, at least these men were actually Muslim - unlike poor Jean-Charles de Menezes, a Brazilian electrician shot dead by the police last July because they thought he looked a bit like a bombing suspect. That's the kind of thing that happens when you don't have legal checks and balances, and while it might send Adam into paroxysms of orgasmic glee - let's face it, provided someone is horribly killed at some stage, that's usually good enough for him - most of the rest of us were, rightly, horrified).
Now maybe these men are as guilty as hell of whatever it is they've been charged of
Double apologies, both for my crappy grammar (that last word should of course have been 'with') and especially for the factual error. As of the date of this comment, they haven't actually been charged with anything - and this is five days after their arrest. But hey, they're Muslims, so why not just bung them into Adam's human-sized microwaves anyway? Who cares about evidence and due process? I mean, we're talking about barely sub-human savages, so does it really matter? (That last paragraph was intensely sarcastic, by the way - not something I'd normally feel the need to point out, but round these parts you can't be too careful...)
Well, what do you know - a week later, both men were freed, and there's talk of six-figure sums in compensation and libel damages (quite a few newspapers jumped to over-hasty conclusions). It now looks all but certain that they were falsely informed on by someone with an axe to grind.

And it's incidents like this that make it all the more vital that we never, ever forget that in a civilised country everyone should be entitled to a full and fair hearing. It's bad enough when the state occasionally screws up and incarcerates or kills the innocent - but to have this principle enshrined in law should be intolerable. And it should be especially intolerable by people who claim to be right-wing conservatives - though Adam's more of a Stalinist leftist, so that doesn't really apply to him. |
