A Small Sign of a Big Weakness: The Story of Abdul Karim Khadr
The other day, on hearing of the Liberal “tax cut”, I got out my records to see how much I would save. I’m not going to say how much or continue one about that, as it’s not why I’m writing. Looking at those taxes, and a story in the newspaper, reminded me of something that I’ve been meaning to write about for a long time – the story of a teenager named Abdul Karim Khadr.

He lives in Ontario now. He’s paralyzed. Your – and more importantly my – tax dollars are paying for his medical care. Oh, yes. And he’s a terrorist. The youngest terrorist of the Khadr clan who was wounded while fighting alongside his fellow al-Qaeda members against our allies, the Pakistanis. And we’re paying for his care.

Nothing, I think, can better illustrate just what is wrong with our society. Here’s this man who is wounded overseas fighting alongside people who have killed our citizens and those of our allies. His family has never renounced their support for terrorism. Indeed, to return to this country, he and his family had to be issued new passports – they having presumably handed their old ones off to be used by other terrorists. And you (and I) are paying for his care.

It’s not about the money. If you consider everything the government spends money on, you and I are probably paying a fraction of a fraction of a cent towards it. It’s the principle of the thing. I’d gladly pay hundreds of dollars to have him denied medical care.

That we are, without any real fuss being made, subsidizing the health of this self-confessed “al-Qaeda family” says a great deal about what is wrong with Western Civilization and why this war against a band of sub-human thugs has proven to be so difficult.

Here’s a guy – a citizen – who was wounded overseas while fighting for our enemy and against us. He gave his passport away, probably to terrorists. But, when he needs medical care, he runs back to Canada – and we take him, with open arms. Hell, we probably even paid to bring him back to the country. No one even really kicked up a fuss about it.

We are a society crippled by emotionalism and sentimentality. The Khadr’s fully-understood that we are far too weak to ever be so cruel as to deny anyone medical care, even someone who requires it because they have been fighting overseas as part of the enemy’s forces. Can you imagine such a scenario unfolding fifty years ago? I can’t. A Korean who went to Korea and fought alongside North Korean forces would have been no more welcome back in Canada – let alone to be cared for by us – than a Roman who fought alongside the Carthaginians would have been welcomed back into Rome. This is a weakness and a potentially fatal one at that.

As its core, the pathological stupidity of modern liberalism arises out of a willingness to substitute certain emotions for common sense while, at the same time, seeking to suppress other ones. The left is for emotion over reason and for compassion over vengeance. That is all well and good in the playground and on Oprah but, in the real world, it is all so terribly foolish. Our enemies will not reciprocate our mercy, but instead laugh at us for our weakness. One of the reasons why our enemies are so willing and eager to attack us is that they see us as a cowardly and effete society, full of corrupted and decadent values, and they believe that we will not have the courage to resist them. When we do things like this, we only give them greater reason to hold those beliefs.

Now, some will say, “what are we supposed to do then, let him die?” To which I would answer, “Yes, of course.” They are the enemy. We want them dead. The greatest foolishness of this war has been the desire to avoid bloodshed among the ranks of the enemy. Tactically, the objective of any force in war should be to inflict maximum death and destruction upon the enemy while minimizing losses on out side. Until we are willing to accept that – to know that war means killing – we will remain unable to secure the final triumph.

Some may say that it is “inhuman” to let a teenager suffer and possibly die under such circumstances. If he were one of ours, I might agree. But, to paraphrase a great man, I would like to remind you that terrorists are not humans and they don’t deserve to be treated like humans. Terrorists are sub-human scum. Their lives are worth less than those of insects. Indeed – there are good reasons not to actively seek out and exterminate every insect on the Earth. The same cannot be said for terrorists.

For us to win – for us to triumph against the declared Islamic ambition to conquer the world – we must wage a war of total annihilation with no quarter sought or expected. It is not enough to merely defeat the enemy – we must grind his face into the Earth, snap his neck, and burn all that he loves to cinders. We will not emerge victorious through tactical victories. It is entirely possible that we could, as in Vietnam, win every battle and still lose the war. To win in a total war we must achieve a victory as total and as complete as that achieved over Germany and Japan six decades ago. We will not see that glorious day until the bodies of the Islamists, and all who support them, are scattered across the land like the worthless trash that they are. We will not win until ten thousand of the enemy have been burned off the Earth, like the contagion they are, for every one of ours that they have taken. Then, and only then, will this be over and freedom secured. But how will we eradicate the cancer when we cannot excise even this one small tumor?

That is what the Abdul Khadr represents: our insane unwillingness to use the force necessary to save our civilization from these monsters. For, if we cannot refuse care to a traitor wounded while fighting alongside the enemy against our cause, how will we ever conjure up the strength to do everything else that we must?

In this war there have been good days and there have been bad days. I fear that there will be many more of the latter to come if we do not grow to accept – and then do – what must be done.

But is it any more foolish than jumping to the conclusion that everyone whose political views one objects to is a "traitor" (no matter that you yourself, Adam Yoshida, have explicitly called for the invasion of your native country by a foreign power) and must therefore be killed, preferably alongside large numbers of other "traitors", without anything so civilised as a trial or any form of due process?

I would respectfully suggest that "common sense" and "reason" don't play too much of a part in reaching such conclusions, especially when the actual mechanism of the "executions" (or rather, cold-blooded state or extra-judicial murder) is described with so much lip-smacking relish and irrelevant detail that it's clear that you're drawing far more on your own (not so) private fantasies than anything else. So much for reason!

Indeed, didn't you not only defend the Abu Ghraib atrocities (where the overwhelming majority of the detainees subsequently turned out to be innocent - so much for "vengeance") but insisted repeatedly that the only mistake the US government made was not to cover the whole affair up?

Fanatics come in many shapes and sizes. Some might be Kalashnikov-toting towelheads. Others might be Canadian citizens writing genocidal drivel on blogs over a period of a decade or so, and clearly getting off on the idea every time. You'll forgive me for not recognising that there's much of a difference between the two mindsets - and why a reasonable and rational person would find them equally contemptible.

I'm not a lawyer, and even if I was I wouldn't be familiar with Canadian libel laws, but...

...since Mr Khadr hasn't actually been charged with anything, let alone convicted, is Adam playing with fire by stating so bluntly that (a) he's a terrorist and (b) he's been engaging in passport fraud?

Sweeping fantasies about killing large numbers of unnamed people are one thing, but specific accusations against named individuals - of the same nationality as Adam, what's more - are something else again.

Mind you, I suspect that a succcessful libel action would require the plaintiff to demonstrate that someone took Adam's ravings seriously, which could be an insurmountable problem - so I suspect he's probably safe.

hey!! my englisg is not so well... i just want to say hello... kiss.. visit me .. sometimes... kiss... http://ivakc.blog.hr

I didn't "call for an invasion" of Canada. I said that, if Canada continued to supply China with oil during a war, then the US should act against it. Hardly the same thing.

Your exact words were:

"Not only should the United States continue to work to explore increased domestic sources of oil, but it’s also important to ensure that supplies are available for instant access. That means having active plans to seize foreign oil fields which have come under Chinese influence, such as those in Venezuela and Canada, if they continue to supply China during a military crisis."

So can you please explain how the US can seize Canadian oil fields without invading sovereign Canadian territory?

And can you also explain why such comments don't constitute treason when you're normally only too happy to slap that label on people who do far less to earn it?

In the scenario described, the Canadian Government would have become an active enemy of freedom.

Would you not agree that the vast majority of the people you call "traitors" would be able to use a very similar if not identical argument? So what makes you so special that these principles don't apply to you?

More to the point, can you seriously see this standing up in court? Yes, your honour, I admit to calling for Canada to be invaded by a foreign power - but this is because I believe Canada to be the enemy of freedom! Lord Haw-Haw was hanged for less, and he wasn't even a citizen of the country that tried him for treason.

Every time Adam uses the word "freedom", I am reminded of a quotation from The Princess Bride:

"You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means."

Well, in Adam's case "freedom" means "freedom for the US government to do whatever it damn well pleases, and screw the rest of the planet."

From a US citizen such a comment would at least be understandable, if peculiarly stupid and bigoted. But from someone who isn't even American in the first place, it's almost inexpressibly sad.

The blog post that 'Yoshi' makes reference to is only the latest in a long string of posts made by Adam Yoshida supporting the destruction of his country.

Adam has repeatedly stated that he would gladly act as quisling to help destory Canada. Needless to say the word quisling is, in modern parlance, literally a traitor.

Luckily, Adam lacks the courage to *actually* commit treason, he just talks a bad game.

Adam lacks the courage to do anything but spread borderline psychotic, emotionally stunted, half crazed ravings from the computer he keeps in his mom's basement.

We should start denying healthcare to suspected enemies of the state? Really Adam? Well looks like you'll have to start ordering that viagra from mexico buddy, because you've just been branded an enemy of Canada.

In all seriousness, I hope one day your frontal lobe fully develops and you spontaniously receive the ability to experience empathy before you die, because if there really is any final tally, you're digging yourself quite the spiritual hole.

Before I go, I thought I would mention that Canada is considering bringing torture charges against American officials, if the legality is possible, and I'm all for it, thank god I live in a country where a majority of people would laugh in Adam's face if they read this. In fact, why don't you run for the conservitave party, it would really get your "views" out into the mainstream, where people can see what conservatism is really about.
